ENGL 262 - Contemporary Asian American Fiction4 HU, CD, WR First Semester. This course addresses two borders: the boundaries of Asian American representation, and the shifting parameters of the Asian American canon. Readings may include Maxine Hong Kingston, Frank Chin, Joy Kogawa, David Wong Louie, David Henry Hwang, Karen Yamashita, Jessica Hagedorn, as well as canonical Asian American criticism and theory addressing how stereotypes, history, and cultural and personal memories collide in the contentious relationships between gender, sexuality, and national/diasporic identity.
