HIST 371 - The Russian Intelligentsia in the Late Imperial Period3 SS This course examines the social and cultural construction of the Russian intelligentsia, its self-identity, and its intellectual products. We will read some of the great works of social, political and literary commentary on such topics as the Slavophile-Westernizer debates, nihilism and populism, Social Democracy and the "worker question", liberalism, the crisis of values at the turn of the century.
