MHST 323 - Two Russian Giants: The Music of Prokofiev and Shostakovich

First Semester. This course proposes to invetigate the historical, literary and philosophical background of the music of Shostakovich and Prokofiev, sampling, in 13 weeks, their contributions to the symphonic, dramatic, and chamber literature. Students will be expectd to spend most of the semester writing a reseach paper under the supervision of the instructor.

Prerequisites: MHST 101 and one MHST 200-level course
