ARTS 358 - Great Mountains and Flowing Water: Landscape Art of China3HU New Course Added 07/26/2006 First Semester. This course explores the traditions of Chinese landscape art from its beginning phase around the first century to maturity and beyond, in the context of perceptions, aesthetics, cultural meanings, and societal implications of landscape. Landscape paintings are the primary focus, and the Allen’s collection will be central to the course. We will also consider gardens, poetry, and Chinese philosophies. We examine both primary sources, including translated landscape and garden texts, and modern scholarship. Prerequisites & Notes Enrollment Limit: 30. Ms. Wang |
