HIST 242 - U.S. Encountering Asia and the Pacific3 SS, CD, WR New Course Added 10/11/2006 Second Semester. This course will explore how individual Americans came in contact with peoples of Asia and the Pacific at home and abroad from Republic era to the present. We will use their personal encounters to examine the formation of U.S. national identity, the close relationship between immigration and U.S. expansion, and the changing meaning of Americanness. The texts will include personal correspondence, diaries, travelogues, news reports, novels, films, oral history, and scholarly analyses. Ms. Li |
