HIST 377 - Russia in AsiaNext Offered: 2008-09Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 SS, CD, WRi Beginning with the interaction of sedentary and nomadic peoples on the Eurasian steppe, this course studies the relationship between Muscovy/Russia and the cultures, religions and polities of Central Asia. Topics include: patterns of colonization and conquest; imperial policy toward various Muslim peoples; 19th century rivalry between Russia and Britain; Turco-Mongolian political traditions; Perso-Islamic cultural and religious influences; and oasis economies of the region.
