RELG 226 - Modern Religious Thought in the West: Mid-19th Century to the Present
This course analyzes our assumptions and judgments about religion in light of the clash of religious and secular frameworks. Topics to be examined include religious responses to modern scientific and historical consciousness, secular critical analyses of religion, debates on the human condition, efforts to address cultural and religious issues arising from the devastation of the two world wars, and the challenge of religious pluralism. Thinkers studied include Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Buber, Tillich, Niebuhr and contemporary thinkers. Enrollment Limit: 40. |
