MHST 319 - Studies in Genre: The Oratorio

An historical investigation of selected oratorios dating from the 17th century to the modern day. The critical study of individual works will be complemented by a consideration of the genre’s various contextual manifestations (e.g., as devotional work, opera substitute, national allegory, Elgar, and Vaughn Williams).
