EAST 183 - Introduction to Modern Korean History, Culture and SocietySemester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 SS, CD Incorporating feature films, documentaries, novels, and original sources in translation, this introductory course provides an overview of the modern history of Korea (1876 to the present), focusing on the major changes and continuities in North and South Korea with an emphasis on particular themes such as modernization, colonialism, nationalism, social movements, gender, political and economic systems, United States-Korea relations, and the issue of unification of the two Koreas.
