HIST 172 - From the Iron Curtain to the Velvet Revolution: Eastern Europe under Communism, 1939-PresentSemester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 SS This course examines the political, social, intellectual, and cultural history of Eastern Europe from 1939 to the present. Topics include World War II, the Holocaust, and the Stalinist takeover; the “Thaw,” reform communism, dissent, and the revolutions of 1989, and the democratic transition, the war in Yugoslavia, and EU integration.
