HIST 275 - Gender and Nation in Modern EuropeSemester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3 SS This course examines the relationship between gender and the nation-state in modern Europe. We explore how ideas about gender (and race, class, sex) were constituted in philosophy, science, and other discourses and mobilized for political, economic, and social purposes. We also consider how individuals responded to these discourses in everyday practices and social movements. Topics include industrialization, colonization, socialism, fascism, the two world wars, the Cold War, immigration, and war in Yugoslavia. Enrollment Limit: 25. Instructor: J. Massino |
