EAST 275 - Gender, Memory and Autobiography in Korean Historical Experience
This course looks at Korean history through personal accounts in such mediums as autobiographies, oral histories, memoirs, literature and film. How are different periods of Korean history experienced, understood, represented, and remembered by individuals, groups and the society at large, and does gender matter? The course will critically interrogate personal and shared understandings of Korea’s past and issues in autobiographical memory using interdisciplinary methods from history, psychology, and sociology.
