This seminar will explore current issues related to the terrestrial carbon sink. Approximately a quarter of the carbon we put into the atmosphere is taken up by plant photosynthesis in terrestrial ecosystems. Students will explore the relative roles of land use change, atmospheric CO2 levels, air pollution, and climate on the 20th
century carbon sink, as well as how changes to the carbon cycle might affect the future climate.
