FREN 372 - Littérature française II: De la Révolution à nos joursSemester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 hours Attribute: 3HU, CD In this course, we will examine the major literary movements in French literature of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. What is modernity? What is the historical and social context of a work of literature and what importance does it have for our insights into that work? Ultimately, what is the role of the artist in the modern world, and what defines literature? We will study works of various genres: poetry, theater, novels, short stories, and film. Some authors include Chénier, Hugo, Sand, Baudelaire, Balzac, Flaubert, Duras, Yourcenar, Garréta, Perec, Ponge, et Godard. All readings, lectures, and discussion in French.
