Cinema is perennially concerned with the challenge of representing extraordinary experiences. Filmmakers and critics return repeatedly to the medium's capacity to evoke a profound sense of reality despite reason's doubts regarding the status of the represented world.  We'll investigate selected treatments of the extraordinary and the challenges they present to critical theory and practice.
