This course explores the main events of the 19th and 20th centuries which shaped the region. We will focus on the creation of the nation-states and the changes in the political systems, colonialism and the struggle for independence, and conflicts in the region. We will explore the living experience of history; highlighting issues such as representations of the Middle East, political movements, gender, immigration, and other socio-cultural issues.
