CMPL 362 - Colloquium: Paris Modernism

Semester Offered: Second Semester
Credits (Range): 3 Hours
Attribute: 3 HU, CD
A long-standing center of European culture, Paris in the early twentieth century was the site of extraordinary cultural intensity. This cosmopolitan host city welcomed artists, writers, travelers, and exiles from all over the world who used its cafes, galleries, and publishing houses for creative collaboration. What ideas about art and about modernity did these ‘modernists’ have in common? How did they differ? What relevance does this cultural moment have for us today?
