GEOL 161 - Marine ScienceSemester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 hours Attribute: 3NS An investigation of geological, physical, chemical and biological processes operating in the oceans and ocean basins, emphasizing interactions among them. We examine marine geology, plate tectonics, ocean circulation, sea water chemistry, waves, tides and coastal processes in the modern oceans. We also explore the geologic history of ocean basins. The final third of the course covers marine life, including plankton, coral reefs, deep sea life, and marine mammals, and explores human interactions with the oceans.
