This course will explore the responses of creative artists and the Russian media to recent current events, including Russian-American adoption politics, mental illness and society, Soviet nostalgia, and the punk-rock protests of Pussy Riot. The aim of the course is to consider the way that theater, television, film and the Internet operate as central vehicles for self-expression and debate about key socio-cultural issues confronting Russians today. Taught in Russian.
