This course, where history and media history inflect each other, will examine narrative, documentary, and experimental films that grappled with artistic, political, and ideological upheaval of May 1968, a year that 'rocked the world.' We will focus on French cinema but also explore the role of television and filmmaking from other continents. What is ultimately at stake is the viability of 'political cinema' and other forms of commitment. Conducted in English.
