This seminar examines the historical development and current practice and theory of art history. Based on close reading of key texts from antiquity to the present, we consider such topics as: iconography/iconology, semiotics, formalism, psychoanalysis, Marxism and feminism. The course is primarily intended for art history majors who should take it in their sophomore or junior year.
