ARTS 047 - Vis Pro:The Materials and Techniques of Icon Painting

We will study the painting techniques and ideas of icon painting.  Students will learn about the traditional methods and materials using:  raw pigments mixed in egg yolk, traditionally gessoed panels, and gold leaf.  Each student will make their own icon in the course of the module, using techniques of Russian Icon painting.  These works use the process of painting and the images themselves as a means for spiritual transformation of both viewer and painter.
