This hybrid course examines the roots of literary modernism and postmodernism in continental philosophy. We will read theoretical texts by Nietzsche, Derrida, Rorty, Vattimo, Lyotard, Jameson, Irigarary, and Levi-Strauss; fiction by Barnes, Perec, Borges, Chu T'ien-wen, Kis, and Duras.
