FREN 450 - Sujets contemporains: Écrire la guerre

Semester Offered: Second Semester
Full Course
Credits: 4 credits
Attribute: 4HU, CD

We will consider a body of texts from the First World War to today that attempt to put into words or images the experiences of industrialized warfare and total war. What particular challenges has the subject of war posed for the novel, for poetry, film, journalism, and the visual arts in the 20th century? How--by what narrative, formal, or discursive means--have French writers and thinkers created meaning from the two world wars?
