Who and what is the femme fatale? Can we speak of a consistent image or rather, of many disparate femmes fatales? In this course we will examine the figure of the femme fatale in representations across artistic media. We will explore how and why women have been construed as femmes fatales in male-dominated societies. Literary texts from different traditions and genres and artworks from the Oberlin Art Museum will provide our visual sources.
