Historically, the "good" life has been constituted through negative operations: proscription, prosecution, condemnation. Yet, what is proscribed, prosecuted and condemned changes constantly, leaving behind a telling archive. This course uses the "bad life" as an entry-point into Latin American cultural production of the 19th, 20th, and 21st century, and analyzes the literary and cultural operations through which important texts in the tradition have proscribed, prosecuted, and condemned-or performed, and celebrated-the bad life.  Taught in Spanish.
