EAST 283 - Korean Thought and Religion

A historical survey of religions in Korea that  specifically examines the formation of religious traditions and how religious ideas have translated into moral and social  practices and affected political, cultural and economic structures in Korea. Among the topics discussed are Native Forms of Buddhism, Neo-Confucianism and the Choson State and Society,  Shamanism, the Rise of Christianity, Revolutions and Popular  Religions in Colonial Korea and the Relationship between Religion and Society in North and South Korea. Enrollment Limit: 25.
