BIOL 405 - Seminar: Emerging Diseases: Global Challenges to Human Health

Because of the emergence and re-emergence of deadly diseases such as AIDS, malaria and drug-resistant tuberculosis, infectious diseases remain the leading cause of death worldwide and the third leading cause of death within the US. This course will explore emerging infectious disease from several perspectives (human demographics, human behavior, public health, agricultural and environmental change, pathogen characteristics). Lectures/tutorials will alternate with in-class discussions of journal articles. Students will give oral presentations and serve as discussion leaders. Enrollment limit: 14 .
