A focused survey of American and European art in all media since the end of the Second World War, as well as the competing critical paradigms advanced to discuss and understand it. The main emphasis will be on historical conditions, artistic developments and critical debates after 1960, with particular focus on the problems of originality and authorship, autonomy and contingency, object and conception, expression and representation, the body and identity, and critique and complicity.
