ANTH 220 - Bolivia: On the Frontline of Latin America’s “Resource Wars”

This course introduces students to Bolivia’s geopolitical and cultural landscape through an in depth examination of the nation’s highly publicized “Resource Wars” over water, gas, and coca and the complex of socio-economic, territorial, and ethnic dynamics that inform them. We will: 1) explore these conflicts individually and comparatively 2) examine how these struggles entail continuities and breaks with Bolivia’s past and 3) analyze their broader significance in the context of Latin America, more generally.
