HIST 473 - Colloquium: Violence and Terror in Early America Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 4 Hours Attribute: 4 SS, CD This seminar explores the myriad functions of violence and terror in the development of American society from the early colonial period through the mid-nineteenth century. We will interrogate both the definition of these terms as well as the inter-national, inter-cultural, and inter-personal contexts in which early Americans experienced them. Prominent themes include Euro-American-American Indian warfare, imperial contestation, piracy and maritime violence, slavery and servitude, and sexual violence.
