Why Science Fiction? What does this genre uniquely allow us to say? How does it enable us to think and imagine differently? This course surveys the history of SF beginning in the nineteenth century and in the context of developments in science, technology, imperialism, and capitalism that influenced its emergence and evolution. Authors will include Mary Shelley, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, H. G. Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, Aldous Huxley, Philip K. Dick, and Ursula K. LeGuin. British. Enrollment Limit: 30 Instructor: J.
