THEA 314 - The Poetics of Light Semester Offered: Second Semester, FIrst Module Half Course Credits: 2 Credits Attribute: 2HU
We will examine the role played by light in a variety of aesthetic contexts. We will begin by examining the historical evolution of stage lighting (from candles to “dimmable” gas and electric light sources). But our focus will not be confined to lighting for dance and theater. We will also consider the work of visual artists such as Dan Flavin who create museum installations in which light is treated as a sculptural medium. Part of the OASIS program.
