AAST 113 - The Transformative Power of Nonviolent Conflict

This course will focus on understanding the use of strategic nonviolence to bring about social and political transformation. We will look at the history and theory of nonviolent campaigns, and their application in such cases as the civil rights movement, the struggle against Apartheid in South Africa, and the overthrow of Milosevic in Serbia. A major component of the course will be the visits by two prominent scholar-practitioners: Rev. James Lawson and Rev. Alan Boesak. Please see meeting times in Notes.
