How did political thought develop from the 18th to the mid-20th century? Does it still matter today? We will pay particular attention to critiques of Enlightenment that emerge in this period; and to questions about the meaning of politics and its relationship to history; and to questions of freedom, political economy, bureaucracy and totalitarianism, among others.
