FYSP 067 - Agreeing to Disagree: The Mathematics and Philosophy of Cooperation Semester Offered: First Semester Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4NS, QFR, WINT
Different people often have opposing desires, yet they must somehow come to an agreement. We will study this problem mathematically by examining how different voting systems affect the outcome of an election. We will read economic and biological investigations about how people and animals cooperate, when it doesn’t seem to be in their best interests. In general, we will examine this problem ‘How do you agree when you disagree’? from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Enrollment Limit: 14 Instructor: K.
