SOCI 229 - New Immigrant Destinations in the U.S.: Race, Place and Occupations Semester Offered: First Semester Full Course Credits: 4 Credits Attribute: 4SS
This course examines the recent population shift away from traditional gateway cities toward new immigrant destinations in the U.S. The causes and consequences of this shift will be analyzed, focusing special attention on occupations and the intersections of race, ethnicity, class, gender and citizenship. Topics include: immigrant incorporation, racial/ethnic diversity, local economies and politics. Immigration from Mexico to rural U.S. will feature prominently, along with comparisons to other racial/ethnic groups in various new destinations. Enrollment Limit: 35 Instructor: J.
