What is Acadian culture? Lacking official borders but possessing a flag, an anthem and a national holiday, Acadia claims a common French-speaking heritage across North America. From Church Point (Nova Scotia) and Madawaska (Maine) to distant Louisiana, Acadians share a language and culture, despite the hegemonic English environment. The course will address the contemporary social challenges of this plural and inclusive Acadian identity as expressed in vernacular language, literature, folklore, music, architecture, and education. Taught in French.
