How have human beings interacted historically with animals? How and to what ends have different writers, artists, thinkers, and scientists represented animals in different genres, media, and academic disciplines? We will read widely as we seek to understand the ways in which humans have defined themselves in relation to other animals. Students will draft, workshop, and revise essays that engage with ongoing discussion about the mysterious, uncanny, and unexpected exchanges between humans and other animals.
