ARTS 302 - Art from 1900-1960 Semester Offered: Second Semester Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4HU, WINT
This course is a focused survey of art in the early 20th century, across media. It will serve as an introduction to major avant-garde movements, including Cubism, Dada, Surrealism, Primitivism, Constructivism, and Abstract Expressionism. We will explore how artists adopted representational frameworks to navigate a world altered by technology, war, fascism, rationalization, and industrialization, thus raising questions about self and other; racial, sexual, and social identity; and arts relationship to the machine. This course requires fieldtrips. Enrollment Limit: 30 Instructor: J. Hansen Prerequisites & Notes A 100 level art history course.
