ENGL 203 - Early British Literature: Points of Departure

How does English literature begin?  This course will introduce some of the most influential texts of the British tradition before 1700, texts that survived the centuries to become touchstones for writers around the globe:  from medieval tales of love, chivalry, and magic, to Elizabethan love poetry and Shakespearean drama, to Milton’s Paradise Lost.  Medieval works will be read in modern translation. British, Pre-1700.
