This writing-intensive course focuses on the literature and history of people of African descent in Germany. Using literary texts, films, historical images and documents, this course explores how human beings perceive of ‘difference’ in general, the multiple links between Afro-Germans and other people of African descent, the connections they formed (for instance, with Audre Lorde), and the emergence of different organizations that consciously sought to connect themselves globally, across languages and cultures.
