A lecture course tracing the links between theater and ritual performance from the earliest human civilizations through Elizabethan England. We will focus on theatrical texts, performances spaces, and theoretical treatises from various world cultures. European, Egyptian, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Hopi, and Mayan performances will be studied in relation to the social and intellectual history of each major era and culture. Enrollment Limit: 20 Instructor: J. Dorwart Prerequisites & Notes Prerequisites: THEA 252 and consent of instructor are prerequisites for THEA 253.
