GSFS 416 - Feminist Epidemiology Semester Offered: Second Semester Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4SS, CD, QFR
This course examines how foundational elements of epidemiology “person, place, and time” are implicated in feminist concerns of power and social justice. We’ll study basic concepts in epidemiological practice, such as calculating incidence rates and designing cohort studies, alongside the history of epidemiology, lay studies or “people’s epidemiology,” activism surrounding population health, and the gendered politics of public health practice. Students will learn to critique epidemiological research with a critical feminist lens, understand the relevance of feminist epidemiology in their own lives and communities, and gain basic skills for designing feminist population health research.
