ARBC 151 - Arab Cinema Semester Offered: Second Semester, Second Module Half Course Credits: 2 credits Attribute: 2HU
Through an exploration of Arab cinema from 1940 to the present, this course will introduce students to the rich histories and cultures of the Arab world, with special emphasis on contemporary cultures. Films from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Algeria and other Arab countries will show the diversity of this cinematic tradition as well as its shared features. Critical readings on the history and development of Arab cinema will accompany the films. Topics may include national identity, gender, language, religion, and modernity.
