CLAS 352 - Selfies: Self Representation in the Ancient World Semester Offered: Second Semester Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4HU, CD, WADV
How do you present yourself to the world, and why? This course looks at the ways in which individuals intentionally represented themselves to their communities in Greek and Roman society, and the social, religious, civic, ethnic, and political identities they sought to publically communicate. The primary evidence examined is both written (in the form of autobiographical works read in translation) and visual (both art historical and archaeological evidence, including sculpture, coinage, epigraphy, architecture, and painting). The chronological focus spans both the Greek and Roman periods, from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity, and a basic background in ancient history is required. Enrollment Limit: 15 Instructor: E. Wueste Prerequisites & Notes Classics 103 OR 104
