Not only is cinema the global mass medium of the twentieth century, but now globalization has come to be the defining characteristic of cinema in the twenty-first century. This course provides a critical context and mapping strategies for studying of contemporary global cinema and introduces students to theoretical debates about the categorization and global circulation of films, aesthetics, audiences, authorship, and concepts of the national, regional, and transnational.
