ARTS 306 - Art from 1960 Semester Offered: First Semester Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4HU
This course is a focused survey of art in the later 20th century. We will trace a shift that began in the 1960s, with the loss of arts self-eviden[ce], as Theodor Adorno had it in 1969, bringing changes in arts production, media, spectatorship, display, and institutions. How did artists deploy new vocabularies to address and define this shift? This course introduces the major movements of late 20th c. art, situating them in a broader context.
