ARTS 353 - Paintings, Portraits, and Prints: Arabic and Persian Book Arts Semester Offered: First Semester Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4HU, CD, WINT
This course examines figural painting and arts of the book in the Islamic lands, with a focus on Arabic and Persian cultural spheres ca. 1200s-1800s. We will study concepts of the book in Islamic civilization, illuminated Qur?an manuscripts, word/image relationship, albums, and single-page portraits. The class concludes with the advent of printing and lithographic image making in the nineteenth century.
