COMP 300 - Orchestration


First and Second Semester. Primarily for composition majors. The purpose is to develop facility in writing for various instrumental combinations. The study includes: comparison of techniques of orchestration (18th-20th centuries), practice writing and arranging for the different choirs of the modern orchestra, orchestrating complete compositions; the graphic aspect of and notational problems in more recent music.

Prerequisites & Notes
Prerequisites: MUTH 232. Junior status as a composition major or minor (or College music major, composition emphasis)
Consent of instructor required
